• Cash grants for business

    In our email update on the 18th March we updated you on the announcement that cash grants will be made available to over 700,000 small businesses that have business property within the Business Rates regime.

    As a reminder, businesses currently eligible for Small Business Rate Relief will be able to access a £10,000 non-repayable cash grant. Businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors with rateable values of up to £51,000 will be able to access up to £25,000 in non-repayable cash grants.

    At the time of our initial email it was not clear how these grants would be delivered.  Two weeks have now passed and we are starting to see the details emerge about how the grants are accessed, local authorities appear to be inconsistent in their approach. We set out these different approaches below, by Local Authority. Read on to learn more about how to access cash grants in your area.

    Brighton & Hove Council

    Hastings Borough Council

    On their website they suggest they expect to receive the funding from Government on 1 April and that they will contact eligible businesses in due course. If your business is located in this local authority please take a look at their website by clicking here for more information.

    Lewes & Eastbourne Councils

    On their website they are providing the standard government information about the grants but add that they hope to contact all eligible businesses within the next couple of weeks.     Mid Sussex District Council

    On their website they are providing the standard government information about the grants which maintains that they will contact eligible businesses. If your business is located in this local authority please take a look at their website by clicking here for more information.

    Rother District Council
